Percival Everett

With every new book he starts, Everett immerses himself into his subject matter so thoroughly to the point of almost becoming a de facto expert on the topic, and his recent novel ‘The Trees’ (where he writes about a federal agent investigating murders in the American South) is no exception. I’ve heard people say that when it’s at its best writing feels more like an act of discovery than creation; trying to find the right phrase or sentence in a sea of options. Everett is a searcher. And a playful one at that.
